Born Ewald Klautky in Wurzburg, Germany from Guyanese South American parents who immigrated twice to Canada and to U.S. before the age of nine, Ed began his career as a technical draftsman for Chevrolet assembly manuals. He graduated from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan and worked in an advertising illustration studio for 2 and a half years and moved to California to design for Mattel Toys and DIC Entertainment in Burbank before Disney TV on "Gargoyles" as a prop designer.
After storyboarding on the feature "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within", Ed has worked and continues to work on animated TV shows, commercials and direct-to-DVD features for Film Roman, MLG, Sony Adelaide, Nickelodeon, WB Network, Universal, and the legendary Hanna-Barbera. Ed’s affiliations with video game ad agencies lead to various sketchwork for EA, Playstation, Nintendo, and Atari series in packaging & magazine ads. Almost all of which have gone to print and won awards.
Ed owes most of his best memories in TV commercials to Beth Hall who continues to pioneer into the video game industry. When Ed is not freelancing, he’s at SMC as a storyboard instructor.
